A total of 15,139 students on Saturday received their National Certificate In Education, NCE, as the Federal College of Education, FCE, Yola conducted its 15th combined convocation. The combined convocation was part of the tripartite events that include the 50th anniversary of the college and the hosting of the Nigerian College of Education Games, NICEGA, which was flagged off earlier on Friday, November 1.
There is also the component of handing honourary awards to 11 people, including the Adamawa State Deputy Governor, Professor Kaletapwa Farauta who obtained her NCE from the college in 1987, 13 years after the college came to be. The FCE Yola was established as Federal Advanced Teachers College in 1974.
Provost of the college, Mohammed Degereji, expressed gratitude to the federal and state governments, TETFUND, staff, and students for their support in achieving several milestones for the college.
He appealed to the federal government to, especially in view of its age, elevate the college into a degree-awarding university of education. Minister of Education, Tunji Alausa, emphasized the federal government’s commitment to enhancing education through initiatives like the Nigerian Education Loan Fund.
The minister who was represented by the Director of Response, Coordination and Service Improvement in the Ministry of Education, Dr Yusuf Saeed, said he would table the college’s request for an upgrade.
