Blackout in northern Nigeria: Adelabu announces date to restore power supply

The Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu, said power supply will be restored in the northern Nigeria region by this weekend after several days of blackout.

Adelabu disclosed this on Tuesday while addressing the journalists on the update on efforts to restore power to the Northern region.

In his statement posted on the Transmission Company of Nigeria’s official X account on Tuesday, Adelabu explained that the delay in fixing the vandalised Shiroro-Kaduna line was due to security threats.

Adelabu said the government has vowed to explore alternative solutions to fix the vandalised Shiroro-Kaduna line.

According to him: “We’ve had vandalism there before, but nobody noticed it because we fixed it within days. But this time was more severe, and the repairs have been delayed because of security threats.

“We’re working, and hopefully, light will be restored before the end of the week. We’re exploring alternative solutions while we continue to work to fix the vandalised towers.”

This comes as Nigerians called for the sack of Adelabu over the persistence of darkness in northern Nigeria.
