President Bola Tinubu has restructured the State House media team, adopting a collective spokesperson model to improve communication and coordination of government policies.
The changes were announced on Monday by Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, through a statement on his X (formerly Twitter) account.
In the new arrangement, Sunday Dare is now Special Adviser, Media and Public Communications, while Daniel Bwala has been re-designated as Special Adviser, Policy Communication. Together with Onanuga, the three advisers will collectively serve as spokespersons for the presidency.
“President Tinubu has re-designated the positions of two recently appointed officials in the State House media and communications team to enhance efficiency within the government’s communication machinery,” the statement said.
Onanuga explained, “Mr. Sunday Dare—hitherto Special Adviser on Public Communication and National Orientation—is now Special Adviser, Media and Public Communications. Mr. Daniel Bwala—announced last week as Special Adviser, Media and Public Communication—is now Special Adviser, Policy Communication.”
The statement emphasized that the collective spokesperson model aims to ensure clear and consistent communication from the government.
This restructuring follows the indefinite leave of Ajuri Ngelale, the former Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, in September 2024, due to family medical concerns. President Tinubu accepted Ngelale’s reasons and sympathized with his situation.
Ngelale’s departure led to the earlier appointments of Dare and Bwala. With this new structure, all three advisers—Dare, Bwala, and Onanuga—will work collaboratively to manage government communications.
